Asher + Brand New

Y'all met sweet little Asher in his hospital photos last week, but we couldn't let him start growing up without starting his life off with official newborn pictures. I have to admit, this session might have been my favorite newborn session I've done so far.  Asher was so tiny and sleepy which made it so easy to pose him and put him in things like antique ice cream makers.

I love this dear family, and I love the way you can see their love for each other and their new baby in these pictures.  Enjoy!

We'll start off with this series of pictures I had the privilege of taking throughout Steph's pregnancy.  To me, it so clearly shows and celebrates the value of life from conception to birth.

I'm so happy with how this one turned out - does little Asher look cozy or what?

Another favorite. Steph - you are stunning!

Steph told me that they have a picture of Justin with each of their other two kids nose to nose - because all of Justin's kids got his nose :) Just precious.

This was my American Girl Doll bed when I was little...and now it's getting used for real live little ones :)

I will be the first to admit that I have a lot to learn when it comes to newborn photography, especially taking pictures of newborns outside.

For example, how does one get the sleeping newborn into a natural looking sleep position inside the antique bucket without waking them up? And if they wake up, how do you convince them that they should be perfectly happy to go back to sleep swaddled in a crocheted blanket in a bucket in 80 degree weather?

And then there's figuring out how to take an in focus picture when your 20 month old, who of course came along for the outside shoot, desperately needs to be held that.very.moment and is balancing on your hip and trying to help you hold the camera.

What you don't see in these pictures are the mosquitoes, the snakes (I didn't see them either but I'm assuming they were lurking all around), the two hungry toddlers, and the three women all trying to work together to make it look like we just happened upon a tender babe sleeping peacefully in the woods. In a bucket :)
